Esta Tarde Vi Llover

I decided to learn a popular Mexican song during my stay in Guanajuato, Mexico. The wistful “Esta Tarde Vi Llover” was written by Armando Manzanero in 1967 and has been covered by Tony Bennett and Bill Evans (as “Yesterday I Heard the Rain”), among others. I’m including my translation below.

This afternoon I saw the rain
Saw people running
And you weren’t there

The other night I saw shining
A bright blue star
And you weren’t there

The other afternoon
I saw a bird in love
Kissing its illusory love
And you weren’t there

This afternoon I saw the rain
Saw people running
And you weren’t there

I saw autumn arrive
Heard the sea singing
And you weren’t there

I don’t know how much you love me
Whether you’re missing me or you’re deceiving me

I only know I saw the rain
Saw people running
And you weren’t there
