Children, Go Where I Send Thee

Posted on 12/17/202312/18/2023 by Carla Seidl

This song was a traditional African-American spiritual that later became known as a Christmas carol. I have drawn here from the secularized lyrics by Nick Lowe that I discovered in a Pentatonix recording to create a festive holiday interpretation that brings in some of the activities we enjoy most about the season. Enjoy!

Major lyric changes:

One for the little bitty baby who’s born, born, born on Christmas Day

Two on a two by two wood sleigh

Three laying tracks for the little toy trains

Four for the four caroling at the door

Five for the ice, ice skating all night

Six for the six jotting down their lists

Seven for the seven in the kitchen with the pheasant

Eight for the eight who stayed up late

Nine for the nine putting up all the lights

Ten saying, “Let’s sing it all again!”
