Redemption Song

Posted on 12/05/202312/18/2023 by Carla Seidl

Here is my latest video, a cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” After I started experimenting with playing this song a few months ago, I discovered that Marley had been diagnosed with cancer when he wrote this. His widow, Rita Marley, has remarked that she really hears, within this tune in particular, her husband’s reckoning with his own mortality. Perhaps, on a subconscious level, that is part of what drew me to the song? This year has been an unexpected journey of dealing with a Stage 1 (luckily!) breast cancer diagnosis. I am fortunately feeling stable and healthy at the current moment and looking forward to putting the medical worries behind me.
